Hormone Replacement Therapy – HRT

After a recent increased demand for information on HRT – we have put this information together for our patients to help make an informed decision.

Menopause is a big topic with lots of discussion points . Please see the excellent and comprehensive patient information leaflet produced by Bridgewater Community Healthcare. This explains the menopause, ways to manage your symptoms through lifestyle changes and gives a brief outline of the medical treatments (HRT) available.

Unfortunately there are risks associated with hormone replacement treatment and the most notable of these are an increased risk of breast cancer and blood clots. While the risks are relatively small, it is important that every woman who considers taking HRT understands these risks in relation to her individual health and medical history.

Please see the MHRA leaflet on the risk of breast cancer and read through this carefully. If you decide to go ahead with HRT the GP will chat about this in more detail and answer any questions you might have.

In addition to the two information leaflets, there are some excellent websites to visit for a range of helpful and empowering information about managing the menopause:

If you feel that you would like to consult with a GP please read through the information provided prior to a consultation so we can answer any questions you might have and agree on the best plan together.
